I Could Not Imagine
I love Michigan, but one of the annoyances that we need to put up with is that very few things are close to each other. Michigan has a few major cities Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, to name a few. None of these cities were built to be a walking city like Chicago or New York. Hey there is a reason that this is the Motor City. I am lucky I have the privilege of owning a car, I can get around the state. I am able to get to work, with minor problems. (If you count traffic construction) I would be difficult to maintain a job, with out my car. This is way I am supporting Goodwill Industries of Detroit’s “Get On The Bus Match Day”
“GET ON THE BUS” MATCH DAY HELPS METRO DETROITERS GET TO WORK”
WHAT:
In an effort to help individuals throughout Metro Detroit overcome one of the most daunting barriers to employment – transportation – Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit’s month long “Get on the Bus” campaign will host Match Day on October 12.
Every $49 collected through “Get on the Bus” enables a Goodwill Industries client in Wayne, Oakland or Macomb county to ride the bus to or from work for an entire month. Donations also will help Goodwill Industries provide aid to those in need of other employment-related transportation assistance, including gas cards and automobile repairs.
“Get on the Bus” partner Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) will match all donations on October 12, designated as “Get on the Bus” Match Day in Metro Detroit. SMART will match individual $49 donations with up to 200 “Get A Job, Get A Ride” monthly bus passes.
Campaign partners CVS/pharmacy and Pepsi Bottling Group will donate 50 cents to “Get on the Bus” for each 12-oz. 8-pack Pepsi product purchased at any Michigan CVS/pharmacy location during the month of October, up to a total donation of $10,000. All 236 CVS/pharmacy Michigan store locations will feature in-store displays supporting the campaign. Comcast also has agreed to support “Get on the Bus” by promoting the cause through public service announcements to Southeast Michigan customers.
Individuals interested in donating to the campaign may call (888) 380-GIVE or visit http://www.giveabuspass.org <http://www.giveabuspass.org> .
WHY:
“A single bus pass can be a ticket to a better life for a family,” said Steve Brown, SMART Interim General Manager. “Having a regular, dependable ride to work can make a huge difference to someone’s present and future. SMART is able to solve a critical piece of the employment dilemma by providing a ride to a future of opportunities.”
