Brightening Up My Day
I was having kind of a bad day today, just chalk it up to the mid-week blues. Then I found an article that just made my day. In this months Forbes is an article by Kathleen Bushnell Owsley, “In Defense of Detroit”. This realistic, down to earth description of the strengths and weaknesses of Detroit, really paints the true picture of what the city has become, and is working towards. I especially thought that her comments towards the end of the article.
“Detroit has gone through stunning tragedies over the years–the auto industry collapse being the latest example. But Detroit has, in myriad ways, defied failure with hundreds of small and large successes, even in 2009. We are acknowledging those issues and working to correct them. This is not a town that will simply throw its hands up and give up.”
I think this statement not only shows the strength and passion of the people of Detroit, but it also is the hardworking blue collar backbone of the whole state of Michigan. Do not count this state out, we will make a comeback.
