Renewable Energy Park in Wixom
Govenor Granholm is working to drum up support for a renewable energy park to go in where the old Wixom Ford plant is located. She has stated that this will be the crown jewel in Michigan’s new economy. As reported on M-Live.com the 725 million dollar renewable energy park could create more than 4,000 jobs.
This proposal sounds extremely good from the stand point that it would create a lot of jobs, in an emerging sector of the economy, and can use some of the assets that the state already has to make this work. Michigan needs jobs, in my opinion it is the single greatest factor to making Michigan great again. With jobs comes people, money, and can turn around many of the problems that face this great state. I like that the park will be built on a site that is not being used right now, and will stop another site to turn into blight. Our country is really starting to look at alternative energy as a way of the future, Michigan would be a great place to start this trend. We have the educational background, natural resources, and a work force that is trained and able to work in a production industry. Many people who have lost their jobs in the auto industry could quickly transition to this field. The center point of this park would be in battery manufacturing which again can gain from Michigan’s automotive background. This park could be a great addition to Michigan’s economy as well as our reputation.
The only peice of this that makes me nervouse is that it is going to come down to the government on how many tax breaks and insentives they are going to give to these companies. I am all for a business friendly government, I am just so sure the government in Michigan understands what business friendly means. Let’s hope that our repersentatives listen to us, and continue to work to bring jobs and new businesses to Michigan.
