High Speed Train Through Michigan
On MLive.com there is a great article about a new proposal that is up for pubic discussion next week.
High-speed hydrogen rail: From Grand Rapids to Detroit in 40 minutes?
I think that this is a great idea. On a few different levels, first way to think out of the box. As far as I know there is nothing like this system in the United State now. In a state that is in search of a new identity, this could at least gives the state some clout in innovation. From the public side, more people could experience the state because it does not take half the day to travel it. Also who knows where this can lead to, I can see a very easy extension up to the UP, along with out of the state to Chicago and Ohio, which could increase the tourism for the Michigan. Giving out-of -towners a easy way to get in to Michigan. Secondly I love this idea because it will not cost the State of Michigan any money to build, the company says that have private investors who will put up the capital. But it will bring jobs to the state, because someone has to build it. The state and cities also will start to receive income from the system after three years. For businesses the ability to ship products and supplies across the state in less then an hour, would increase productivity, along with could bring companies to the state, because of the increase in efficiency. Last point on a personal note, it would be nice to jump on a train go up to East Lansing for a football game tailgate, have a great time, and not have to worry about driving home.
I know that this plan is in the early stages, and that their are many obstacles that need to be overcome before this will be a possibility, but I applaud the effort and forward thinking.
